Common in crevices by day on coral reefs.  Spiny dorsal fin spines and basal membranes yellow, upper jaw extends posterior to a vertical line centered on the eye; terminates before center in H. rufus.  Attains 16 inches.  Bermuda & North Carolina to Brazil & the Gulf of Mexico.
