Uncommon on shallow reefs exposed to
surge where it feeds upon algae and invertebrates.
Gray to nearly black with blue lines on the head and a pair of white
spots at the base of transparent yellow dorsal and anal fins. Attains 8 inches.
Occurs only in Hawai‘i, Johnston Island, Rarotonga, Rapa, and Pitcairn
Island. Related to Cantherines pardalis of the Indo-Pacific.
