Rare on
shallow reefs around the Main Hawaiian Islands but common in the
Northwestern Hawaiian Islands. Head tapering with straight jaws,
cream with distinctive brown throat grooves, irregular brown spots
arranged into obscure patches or rows, a dark spot around the gill
opening, and white fin margins. Attains 3 feet. Endemic to
Hawai'i.
