Rare along
ledges at depths exceeding 100 feet. Robust, with a blunt head and
straight jaws, interior of mouth yellowish-orange, golden brown with
irregular white speckles. Attains 40 inches. Hawai‘i and the Indo-Pacific. Formerly known as Gymnothorax
xanthostomus.
