Rare at scuba depths
around the Main Hawaiian Islands but fairly common in the cooler waters
of the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands.
Tan with white fin margins, mouth, and dimples. One of few morays
known to have venomous, finely-serrated teeth. Attains 40 inches.
Recorded at scattered locations from Central Japan to Hawai‘i, New Caledonia,
and Tahiti. Formerly known as Gymnothorax hepaticus.
