Freshwater fishes native to the tropical Americas and Africa.  Intentionally introduced or released into Hawaii streams and lakes illegally.  Several species have become established and may enter brackish or saltwater.

BLACK-THROAT CICHLID

Found in both fresh and saltwater along the shoreline.  Introduced to Hawaii from Africa.  A few black spots are present on the head.  Now the most common cichlid in Hawaii.  About 8 inches.

MOZAMBIQUE TILAPIA

Formerly common in fresh and brackish environments in Hawaii.  Introduced from East Africa.  Males create circular nests in soft sediments.  Males have protruding lower jaws and are dark with red edged fins.
