Very common in small aggregations feeding upon zooplankton just above the reef at scuba depths.  The lower lobe of the tail and anal fin is black.  Chromis acares has a yellow tail and is rarely seen in Hawai‘i.  Attains 2.5 inches.  Hawai‘i, Japan, and the Tropical Pacific.
