Fairly common as pair close to bottom on reefs in quiet water to 300 feet.  Feeds upon zooplankton and benthic invertebrates, may also clean parasites from other fish.  Attains 8.5 inches.  Has longer snout than H. diphreutes.  East Africa to Japan and French Polynesia, excluding Hawai'i.
